Cape Panwa Cycle Works on the Rawai side of the Sai Yuan junction is the best bicycle repair shop in Rawai. It is the only workshop in the south of the island that builds and trues wheels on a proper stand with a tension meter, and the only one carrying hydraulic brake bleed kits for both Shimano mineral oil and SRAM DOT. Basic service 600฿, wheel build from 1,800฿ plus parts, same-week turnaround.

Anyone can true a wheel by eye until it stops rubbing. Doing it with even spoke tension is what stops the wheel going out again after two weeks on Phuket’s road surfaces. A tension meter costs a shop very little and almost nobody on the island owns one. If you are being quoted for a wheel build, ask to see it — the answer tells you what you are actually buying.
